Reports in the German media claim that a journalist donned the disguise in an effort to enter the hospital room where the Formula One legend is currently fighting for his life.
According to The Guardian, German journalists were informed by Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm that a journalist had dressed up as a priest in an effort to access Schumacher’s hotel room at a hospital in Grenoble, where the 44-year old is in an artificial coma following a skiing accident in the resort of Meribel on Sunday.
“Apparently a journalist dressed as a priest had tried to gain access to Michael’s room,” Kehm told a reporter from Die Welt. “I wouldn’t have ever imagined something like this could happen.”
Mercifully, the cover of the journalist in question was blown before he could attempt to gain access to Schumacher’s hospital room and he was reportedly escorted off the premises.
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Gérard Saillant, a brain surgeon and a friend of Schumacher’s, appealed to the press to give them time and space to do what they can to aid his recovery and said that they have no more information than what they have already disclosed to the public.
“In Corinna’s (Schumacher’s wife) name I would like to ask you not to pressurise us,” he said.
“Neither us, nor the family. You can do your best to help Schumacher win this difficult battle by leaving the doctors in peace. We are not hiding anything.”
There was a more positive update on Schumacher’s situation this morning when it emerged that there was a ‘slight improvement’ following a second operation to reduce pressure on his brain on Monday night, but the medical team catering to Schumacher also stressed that he remained in a critical condition and that he isn’t out of danger yet.
