Ah here, one Welsh rugby writer wants even more of his countrymen in the Lions team

You'd almost have to admire the balls on Walesonline’s Andy Howell.

You almost have to admire the balls on Walesonline’s Andy Howell.

While we have fumed away all day about the Brian O’Driscoll decision, and to a lesser extent the Jamie Heaslip one that reduces our Lions presence to just three starters on Saturday, some folks in Wales have a beef too.

Not about BOD, or Heaslip, though. Incredibly one Welsh columnist is bitching about the fact the Wales ONLY have 10 lads in the starting 15.

Andy Howell, a writer on Walesonline makes the case in his column today that Wales should have also had two more in the team, namely Alex Cuthbert and Justin Tipuric, with Tommy Bowe and Sean O’Brien the fall guys in his book.

And at one point he has the gall to argue that if the Lions had Gethin Jenkins, Ian Evans and Sam Warburton (three more Welsh men) they would be stronger than the Lions 15 Gatland has selected.

You can read the full piece here but here’s his reasoning for ditching Tommy Bowe.

Bowe is a good player on his day but he’s not the quickest wing around, his strike-record isn’t as impressive and, in my view his defence isn’t the best either… even though people are citing that as the reason he has been picked ahead of Cuthbert.

In one slight redeeming feature, Howell does say that he reckons BOD is a potential match winner so we think he is advocating the Leinster man starts, though he fails to say which Welsh centre should be booted.

Trolling or fair point, we’ll let you decide.
