He allegedly indulged in too much of the ‘wobbly water’ the night before the team left for Argentina.

All Black fly-half Aaron Cruden has been dropped from the New Zealand squad after he went on a late-night drinking session and missed the team flight to Argentina the following morning.

We’ve heard of people having one drink to settle the nerves, but maybe it’s probably best not to go out and get drunk the night before an early flight. JOE’s no expert on the subject though… in spite of those rumours you’ve heard.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the Chiefs’ number ten will not be catching a later flight to South America and Beauden Barrett is set to start in his stead, with Crusaders fly half Colin Slade as back up.

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen said the incident is out of character for the in-form fly-half and added, “it’s not what we stand for and it’s not what he stands for. The team is well aware that when we don’t get it right there is a consequence and he’s paid the price for that.”

New Zealand will face Argentina in the 5th round of the Rugby Championship on Saturday night and Hansen will be hoping that his side show a steady hand to defeat Los Pumas and remain top of the table.
