What a night for Ireland. Martin O’Neill’s men have completed a feat that looked impossible after their loss to Serbia in early September.
These lads are dogged, though, they fought hard and they did absolutely everything they possibly could.
Character and will. You can never question that in an Ireland team, and these lads have loads of it.
The first half was drab, it was dull, but Ireland kept plugging away, and eventually the moment came.
It was a typical Ireland goal, it was a goal that summed up everything this team stands for. It is a goal that will go down with the immortal moments in Irish football.
Jeff Hendrick worked like a dog to win it, Harry Arter was clever when he needed to be, and James McClean, he was just being James McClean.
From that moment on, it was backs to the wall. It was Shane Duffy playing a game of head-tennis with himself. It was Ciaran Clark, Stephen Ward, Robbie Brady and everybody else in white and green working like dogs.
We have courage, we have togetherness, we have unity, we have character.
These lads deserved to make it to the play-offs because they just weren’t accepting no for an answer.
And do you know what? None of them teams will want to draw us in the play-offs because we will put any of them to the pin of their collars.
