A former Welsh rugby player to try GAA and Michael Murphy to test rugby in RTÉ show

Alan Loughnane

Very interesting…

You may remember earlier this year when Aidan O’Shea tried his hand at American football and Brendan Maher tested out his cricket skills in the The Toughest Trade.

The show made for enthralling television as it demonstrated whether or not some of the top GAA stars could transfer their skills across to professional codes and vice versa.

The show was a massive success with other seasons having the likes of former Spurs and England midfielder David Bentley travelling to Armagh to play for Crossmaglen and Aaron Kernan going in the other direction for a trial with Sunderland.

According to the Irish Mirror, the new series of The Toughest Trade will see Donegal star Michael Murphy making a trip over to the south of France to try his hand at rugby with Top 14 giants Clermont Auvergne.

In his place, former Welsh winger Shane Williams will travel to Donegal to make his Gaelic football debut.

Williams will arrive in Donegal in the middle of January and spent a week learning all the skills of GAA before taking part in a game.

The show is expected to air in March next year.

How do you think these fellas will get on? In the meantime, have a look at the full episode of when Aidan O’Shea tried American football and Roberto Wallace tried GAA.
