Ander Herrera says nervous players the “last to leave” Old Trafford after bomb scare

You can’t blame them for being worried.

A ‘suspect package’ in the NW quadrant of Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium saw their final game of the season with Bournemouth abandoned due to serious security concerns.

The drama at the ground was very real as fans were told to vacate the area as quickly and calmly as possible, and then soon after the media were also asked to leave, including Sky Sports’ pundits.

But whilst all this was going on around them, the players were told to stay where they were and remain within the ground – even as the army’s bomb disposal unit were called to the incident.

As you can imagine, this was incredibly unsettling for the players and Ander Herrera spoke of the tension and nerves from within the player’s confines when he relayed the atmosphere to Spanish radio.

“We are still in the dressing room and it seems we’ll be the last ones to leave the stadium,” Herrera told Tiempo de Juego. “It has been very tense and we have all been nervous.”

The Premier League have confirmed that the game will be played at the earliest opportunity.
