Time Magazine has refuted Donald Trump’s claim that they “called to say [he] was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year.”
Trump was named Person of the Year last year after his shocking election win over Hillary Clinton, but claimed on Twitter last night to have refused Time’s alleged offer this time around, writing: “Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”

Of course, people were pretty sceptical, and Time Magazine pretty much immediately released a statement saying that this is now how their Person of the Year is chosen.
The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.

However, the best burn was reserved for Scottish Tennis star Andy Murray, who tweeted his own version of events.
Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

Murray has been injured since late August when he had to pull out of the US open, and has since dropped to 16 in the world rankings.
