Mixed reaction to the news that Arsenal have triggered Jamie Vardy’s release clause

Arsene's having a party

We didn’t see this one coming.

Jamie Vardy is obviously a player in demand.

The 29-year-old marksman has enjoyed the form of his life this season and goes into the Euros in France hoping to fire England to glory in the same way he did for Premier League champions Leicester City.

Many hoped that at his age and with his fairytale story, the player would be inclined to stay at Leicester and spearhead their assault on the unsuspecting Champions League. After all, why would you leave the champions of England?

But on Friday it has emerged that the first major move has been made to entice him away from the East Midlands.

Guardian journalist Stuart James has disclosed that Arsenal have triggered the player’s release clause in order to steal a mark on their rivals for his signature.

He adds that Leicester are determined to keep their star man, and presumably will do all they can to convince him to stay. That said, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Vardy to cash in on his late blossoming and head to the Emirates.

The response has been mixed to say the least…
