When Mario eventually hangs up the microphone, Today FM have a ready-made replacement in 11-year old Aidan O’Byrne from Tramore in Waterford. This is just fantastic.

The Gift Grub sketch parodying Sky’s coverage of the GAA is up there with the finest pieces of work that Mario Rosenstock and the team have ever come up with and it deservedly garnered plenty of acclaim when it originally aired on Today FM and also when it was subsequently mixed with Soccer Saturday footage in a video version.

11-year old Aidan O’Byrne was such a big fan of the sketch that he wrote out the whole thing, practiced it, recorded it and sent it into Today FM and we can safely say that Mario himself would be proud of the end product; it really is that good.

Aidan, who’s a huge GAA fan himself, does a brilliant job of mimicking the likes of Jeff Stelling, Phil Thompson, Paul Merson and Michael Ó Muircheartaigh and his recreation of the fictional Jeff Stelling’s high-pitched cry of Maurice Shanahan is completely on the ball.

Never mind Gift Grub, Sky themselves might even be keen on recruiting Aidan after hearing this audition tape but whatever happens, there could well be a star in the making here and we’d wager we’ll be hearing his name again in the future.

Brilliant stuff.
