He’s already gone toe-to-toe with some of Hollywood’s heavyweights…

Barry Keoghan is about to swap the red carpet for a pair of red boxing gloves.

According to Irish-Boxing.com, the star of Dunkirk, Love/Hate and ’71 is taking part in the tournament at the Celtic Box Cup in Dungarvan in Waterford, running from September 29 to October 1.

Boxers from all over the world will feature in the line-up for the tournament, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.

Keoghan himself is registered to the Cashen Vale Boxing Club in Tralee in Kerry and will enter the Celtic Box Cup at 60kg in the Senior B class.

We’ll next be seeing Barry in the psychological horror The Killing Of The Sacred Deer, and when he told his co-star Nicole Kidman (during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter) about his boxing aspirations, she went into full Protective Mother Mode:

“It’s very opposed to my maternal instincts. I’m very worried about the hits to the head.”

The fight is due to be screened on TG4 later this month (according to Keoghan), and you can check out his new film when it arrives on Irish screens on November 17.
