Well, this was inevitable.
Haven’t you heard? It’s Coming Home. Well, that’s what every single English supporter will have you believe if the recent wave of memes, videos and messages are to be believed.
There’s just the small matter of Croatia – a country that broke English hearts during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign – to deal with and their mesmeric midfield axis of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic to stifle.
If England manage to reach the showpiece event in Moscow, the French will be waiting for them.
Granted, Gareth Southgate’s men were impressive in their quarter-final against Sweden and after disposing of Colombia in the last 16, English fans are starting to believe.
On this note, various arguments have been put forward that this current English squad are far more deserving of support than previous sides – a topic that the BBC wanted to explore on social media.
As we’ve frequently said, people are entirely free to support whoever they want – hell, the majority of people support an English Premier League team – but the national side is something entirely different.
The majority of these people tend to agree.

pretty indifferent to England, good young squad, good manager but support that’s a bridge too far
— Neil Atherton (@natherton59) July 10, 2018
Why are the English media badgering other nations to support England?
— Scott Reid (@supersaint67) July 10, 2018
As an English support, may I suggest we leave the Scots Irish and Welsh fans to do whathey blimmin we'll want to, and not cause a shitstorm BBC? ENglish fans don't mind what they do.

Those that feel the media make England insufferable.
Would you expect Man City fans to cheer for Man Utd in a European game?
Would you expect Celtic fans to cheer on Rangers in a cup final?
…
Why should we have England forced down our throat and be expected to support them ALL the time??— Bryan Dickson (@brypie04) July 10, 2018
I dont feel anything. I love football be detest the english pundits, media and fans. That is why i would never support them in anything. Come on CROATIA?
— Ryan O'Dell (@RyanODell75) July 10, 2018
They should feel however they want to feel.
Personally I have nothing against most English fans or the team, which is likeable and play entertaining footie. But I hate the media and off the pitch crap played up by them. Arrogant, incessant, domineering and dislikeable.
— RossShamaLlamaLamont (@hellarossa) July 10, 2018
Those in favour of supporting England.
As an Irishman I don’t begrudge England at all(well not anymore?, the past is the past). Hope they do well. I find it hilarious the amount of people who love to see England lose but shout for an English club week in week out… ?
— Craig Kinnear (@Craigk86) July 10, 2018
As a Irish man who lived in the past, the past is the past and we should leave it there England Ireland Scotland and Wales should support each other if one of us is the only team left as where very closely related.
— Jimmy (@CryptocurrancyK) July 10, 2018
People that are pointing out the obvious.
Same as England fans when Scotland Ireland or Wales are playing? Indifference?
— David Lloyd (@TheJudge53) July 10, 2018
Please, please stop, with the “how should every other home nation feel” saga. It’s getting boring. Each country will support its own team and that’s that. Didn’t see the same questions when Wales got to the Euro semi finals, so why now?

Who cares..?
— Gary Wheildon (@GaryWheildon) July 10, 2018
This seems pretty apt.
?? Media: What's wrong with Ireland & Scotland that the can't get behind the English football team?
?? Media (for the last 2 years): Bloody paddies keep trying to ruin our Brexit with their "but what about the Good Friday Agreement!"
??: You know we can see AND hear you?
