BBC commentator criticised following comments on player’s girlfriend

Alan Loughnane

He’s been accused of sexism.

BBC tennis commentator Andrew Castle is at the centre of a sexism row after comments he made about British tennis player Marcus Willis’s girlfriend.

During Willis’s second round match with Roger Federer, the camera panned to Jennifer Bate, a dental surgeon and girlfriend of Willis.

At this point Castle said: “I tell you another thing: my dentist doesn’t look like that.”

The BBC have received a small number of complaints on account of the commentators comments but it was in social media where people vented about his comments.

Andrew Castle has since apologised for the remarks he made, saying it wasn’t his intention to upset anyone.

It seems that Jennifer Bate isn’t the least bit offended by the comments which outraged many as she took to social media to defend Castle’s comments.
