The incident occurred on Wednesday night…

Dan Carter has admitted to a “massive error in judgement” following reports he was stopped for drink driving by police in Paris.

Carter, three times World Rugby Player of the Year and a double World Cup winner with New Zealand, was reportedly stopped in the French capital on Wednesday, February 15, near the famous downtown Paris street the Champs-Elysees, according to magazine Closer.

The AFP news agency reported a police source as saying he tested over the limit on the roadside, but he was neither arrested nor detained.

Carter, who now plays for Racing 92 in the French capital, released a statement on Facebook in the wake of the incident stating:

“I am sure a lot of you have seen the headlines,” he wrote. “No excuses – I made a massive error of judgment and have let down my club, my fans and most importantly my family.

“I will have to now let the police/court process run its course and face the consequences. I am just glad no one was harmed. Sorry.”
