Ulster have been dealt a setback with the news that Tommy Bowe has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a groin muscle tear.

Bowe suffered the injury during the defeat to the All Blacks, but the full extent was only discovered today after a scan revealed he will be out of action for between four to six weeks.

Not only is he out of the back-to-back fixtures with Treviso in the Heineken Cup, he could be out of up to five RaboDirect Pro12 games, and in the time frame he has been set would be likely to miss the trip to the RDS to play Leinster (December 28th) and the home fixture with Munster (January 3rd).

On the injury front for Mark Anscombe’s men, Jared Payne is touch and go for the game with the Italians, while Johann Muller and Rob Herring are expected to be fit for selection.
