Brilliant picture of Michael Conlon putting the hurt on his Mexican opponent
The Olympic medallist is over in Almaty at the World Championships, and he nailed Brian Gonzalez in his fight this morning.
After picking up a bronze in London at Flyweight, Belfast fighter Michael Conlon moved up to 56kg (Bantamweight) for this year’s World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan.

This morning, the 21-year-old faced Brian Gonzalez of Mexico in the last 16, and our man won handily enough, taking all three rounds by a score of 30-27.
This picture shows Conlon landing a sweet punch right on the Mexican’s chin and with headguards now a thing of the past, for the men, that blow would have hurt. A lot.
Conlon is now into the final eight, where he will fight Russia’s Vladimir Nikitin later this week.

Donegal’s Jason Quigley also won today, beating Scotland’s Aston Brown in the Middleweight division.
Hats off to Cathal Noonan of INPHO for the snap.
