Bad news for those heading to the game but possibly some much needed good news for Joe Schmidt; Dan Carter will not play for New Zealand against Ireland on Sunday.

After Saturday’s miserable outing against Australia, the prospect of facing the best team in the world on Sunday looks very daunting indeed. But the All Blacks will be somewhat weakened at Aviva Stadium after it was conformed this morning that the world’s best No 10, Dan Carter, has been ruled out through injury.

Carter, who left the game against England after 26 minutes, has not recovered from that suspected Achilles injury and the Indo report he is to return to New Zealand.

Front row Tony Woodcock, who was also injured in the win over England, will also miss out for Steve Hansen’s side.

Of course, Ireland will be without our first-choice out-half too, Jonny Sexton, and we are still waiting on word about Rob Kearney so we won’t be getting our hopes up of a shock just yet.
