Cathal Pendred announces retirement from MMA with immediate effect

‘The Punisher’ confirmed his decision in a statement this afternoon.

Cathal Pendred has announced his decision to retire from MMA this afternoon.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Pendred said that after nine years in the sport, his passion for MMA “is no longer what it was”.

“I feel that it is time for me to move on,” Pendred added.

“I have other interests that I want to pursue.”

Pendred’s most recent bout was a defeat to Tom Breese at UFC Dublin in October, his second defeat in his UFC career, which dates back to his Fight of the Night victory over Mike King in Dublin in July 2014.

In the statement, Pendred said that he would like to maintain his involvement in MMA, but that he no longer wishes to complete.
