Everton defender Seamus Coleman has been called up to Giovanni Trapattoni’s Ireland squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Russia and Slovakia.

Fulham defender Stephen Kelly has been ruled out with a calf injury, while Ipswich’s Darren O’Dea is also unavailable with a knee injury. Coleman, who was outstanding while on loan to Blackpool last season and has featured for the Toffees in the Premier League this season, has yet to earn a cap for his country.

Coleman is the only uncapped player in the squad and will join up with the rest of the squad on Monday.

Keith Treacy and Cillian Sheridan have both been put on standby
