Conor McGregor broke the UFC salary record at UFC 196 despite his loss

Alan Loughnane

A tidy sum for the Crumlin native.

Conor McGregor may have lost to Nate Diaz on Sunday morning, but he still made a big piece of history at UFC 196.

The Notorious became the first ever UFC fighter to earn a $1,000,000 fight purse, according to figures released from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to MMAFighting.

While we’re certain that McGregor is bitterly disappointed at the loss on Sunday, no doubt he will earn even more cash when he gets his cut of the pay-per-view revenue for UFC 196.

Nate Diaz also earned a career high $500,000 for submitting the Dubliner via rear-naked choke in the second round of their welterweight clash.

Diaz also earned two bonuses on the night earning a cool $100,000 for his two awards of Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night.

McGregor also earned an extra $50,000 for his role in the Fight of the Night.

The list of disclosed purses for main card of UFC 196 is below but it must be noted that these do not represent the total earnings of fighters, with PPV bonuses, certain sponsorship and other fight bonuses not taken into account.
