Conor McGregor makes history after a stunning demolition of Eddie Alvarez

Paul Moore

Two rounds. Two belts. One Conor Mc Gregor.

McGregor finally went toe-to-toe and blow-to-blow with the man that was standing in the way of history, Eddie Alvarez, and The Notorious didn’t disappoint.

In the first UFC event to ever take place in NYC, it’s McGregor that’s walking away with both the featherweight and lightweight titles.

Alvarez started the bout well, delivering some inside-leg kicks that landed, but momentum instantly swung towards McGregor as solid left hands had the American on the ground inside the first minute.

Two more heavy punches sent Alvarez to the canvas twice again as he had to scramble against the cage.

Another strong left saw Alvarez stagger against the cage in the 2nd round, McGregor even found time to taunt his opponent as he was well in control.

We knew what was coming and The Notorious didn’t disappoint. McGregor delivered a stunning series of punches to send his opponent to the canvas for the final time.

The Irishman is now the first fighter in UFC history to hold a title in two different weight classes simultaneously.

He now joins an elite group of fighters to hold two titles in the world’s largest MMA promotion which so far only includes Hall of Famers Randy Couture and BJ Penn.

Alvarez came into the fight on the back of three straight wins against Gilbert Melendez, former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos to claim the belt, but that streak was emphatically ended.

Earlier this evening, we saw Frankie Edgar upset the odds with a stunning victory against Jeremy Stephens, Miesha Tate announce her retirement after two consecutive defeats, a memorable knockout win for Yoel Romero that left Chris Weidman in a bloody mess (watch below), Joanna Jedrzejczyk retaining her title in a superb fight against her fellow countrywoman Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Tyron Woodley retained his title.

But once again, it’s McGregor that has everyone talking.

The Dubliner is undoubtedly the King of New York after absolutely superb achievement.
