Cork City have accepted an undisclosed offer for rising star Brian Lenihan from Championship side Brighton. The youngster will join Sami Hyypia’s side after City’s FAI Ford Cup tie against Bohemians at Turner’s Cross on Friday night.

Lenihan joined City from Munster Senior League side College Corinthians two years ago and has made a big impact since breaking into the first-team.

The defender is capped at Republic of Ireland Under-21 level as he made an appearance against Qatar in May. The move cross channel was always on the cards as Lenihan has been linked to a number of Premier League and Championship clubs in recent months.

City released this statement earlier today.

“Cork City Football Club can confirm that the club has received an offer for our player, Brian Lenihan, which has been accepted.

“The club will not be making any further comment on the matter at this time, and the focus of our management and players is fully on Friday night’s FAI Ford Cup tie against Bohemians at Turner’s Cross. “
