Crossing the Pickett Line: Neil Seery named on the card for UFC Fight Night in London
The campaign to get Neil Seery into the UFC octagon has been successful.
After the announcement that Ian McCall had pulled out of his fight with Brad Pickett on the UFC Fight Night in London on March 8th, the search began for someone to replace the American on the bill, and Ireland's Neil Seery was chief among those who were being touted as possible opponents.
A few of the biggest names in MMA, in particular in the Irish scene, lent their support to a social media campaign to get some momentum behind Seery's claim to fight amongst the best, (we did our own little bit here) and they have been back out in force since the announcement was made just a little while ago, including Cathal Pendred, as well as Seery himself tweeting the official UFC announcement.
Congrats to @NeilSeeryMMA Another Irish man in the UFC. Well deserved, can't wait for march 8th! #FightingIrish

The campaign has been successful, no doubt thanks to the social media drive, but Seery's own record is no small part of why the 34-year-old will be in the biggest promotion going next month. While he's 13-9 overall, since dropping weight to switch division he is 5-1 as well as being the Cage Warriors flyweight world champ.
Seery told the UFC official site "it’s a great honour and I’m excited for the opportunity to showcase my talent on a world stage", and there's no doubt that there will be plenty of Irish supporting him on the night in London.
