“Conor’s foot is hurt, but he thinks he can fight,” White said. “I want him to fight [Jose] Aldo.”
As for Nurmagomedov, White said simply, “He is the No. 1 contender.”
Speaking to Yahoo Sports, Nurmagomedov said: “Alvarez wants to fight McGregor, because it’s an easy fight and it’s a lot of money to fight him.
"But he has to fight me. Dana White has told me, ‘He is fighting you. He has to fight you.’"
It seems only logical that The Notorious would have to go back down to featherweight to defend his crown against the interim champion Jose Aldo, or else relinquish the title altogether.
But there's never been a bigger star in the UFC than Conor McGregor, so inevitably, he's playing off a different set of rules than any other fighter on the UFC roster.
McGregor often, but not always, gets what he wants...
Maybe he won't fight at all this year, and come good on his promise to pursue other ventures outside of the UFC.
