David Ginola to announce his candidacy to replace Sepp Blatter as the head of FIFA

The Frenchman will make an announcement at a press conference today

Eric Lalor

The former Tottenham winger is going for the top job in football.

Before you all have a good head scratch or indeed throw a hissy fit of epic proportions, know that we are well aware that this is one big publicity stunt. The PR company behind the announcement are M&C Saatchi, who, the world and their mother knows, are acting on behalf of their client, Paddy Power.

We would all love to see Sepp Blatter (pic below) replaced as head of FIFA, but we’re pretty sure David Ginola hasn’t got a hope in hell of usurping the former Swiss head of the World Society of Friends of Suspenders.

FIFA Press Conference

The requirements to run for the FIFA presidency state that you must have the support of at least five national football associations from around the world. He has to prove all of this to FIFA before January 29.

Nevertheless, the press conference will take place today in London where Ginola will announce he is going for the job.

He has been saying all the right things about wanting to give the game back to the supporters, wanting to root out corruption and all the things we’d expect him to say, but does anyone really think he’s going to land the top job?

Of course not.
