Des Cahill and Joe Brolly were at loggerheads over Donegal doctor push yesterday

Brolly said it was no big deal, Des disagreed.

Brolly said it was no big deal, Des disagreed.

Joe Brolly and Des Cahill had quite the disagreement on RTE Radio 1 on Saturday, stemming from an incident during the All-Ireland quarter-final between Armagh and Donegal.

Armagh midfielder Aaron Findon escaped with a yellow card after pushing Donegal team doctor Kevin Moran to the ground.

Cahill, presenting Saturday Sport, was aghast when Brolly told him that he was overblowing the incident.

“Doctors don’t get thrown to the ground,” said the presenter.

Brolly, inexplicably, made a comparison between the push and a boxing match that had been shown on RTÉ, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are different sports entirely.

“I remember one of the most brutal boxing fights I had ever seen in my life and you guys were lionising it and saying it was magnificent (and) that it was an example of tremendous courage. Both boxers knocked each other out,” he contended.

Cahill, quite rightly, interrupted to say that that incident had nothing to do with what had occurred at Croke Park.

“That was boxing. That was boxing. This is a team sport when a doctor came on…”

Brolly then replied: “I just think you are making too much of it Des. You know this is not… this is not a kiddie story.”

Cahill responded: “I’m not allowing you trivialising it… that’s all I’m saying.”

Always needing the final word, Brolly ended it with: “This is not the end of the world.”
