Monaghan man in the stands catches ball fired into the crowd from a wayward Brazilian shot and goes home with a class memento.
Kevin Treanor, a Monaghan man living in Boston, was at the historic 7-1 demolition of Brazil by Germany on Tuesday in Belo Horizonte and he has an unbelievable souvenir. He was behind the goal where Germany hit five in the first half with his son and had a bird- eye view of the carnage in the Brazilian defence.
He also managed to grab a hold of one of the match balls which was fired high into the stands by Bernard and managed to smuggle it out of the ground as a keepsake. It’s some souvenir to have as it has the ‘Brazil v Germany’ and date written on to it. Not only that, but there is a mark on the ball from when André Schürrle hit the underside of the crossbar as he scored Germany’s seventh goal (pic below).
