Dublin GAA fan pages rubbish calls for a Diarmuid Connolly ‘tribute’ minute

Tribute minute for Dermo

The Dubs disagree on Dermo.

Earlier today the All Dublin GAA Fans Facebook page called on its followers to chant ‘Dermo’ during the 12th minute tomorrow evening to ‘rile up the boys to march on all (sic) over Mayo in light of him losing his appeal and put the west out in the cold yet again’. They’ve since removed the post:

Dublin GAA Fans

The Hill 16 Army and Dublin GAA Facebook pages have moved to distance themselves from those calling for a tribute issuing a statement on Facebook saying:

“We feel it would be disrespectful to the fantastic tribute we organised recently at HQ for the Harris Brothers as well as the 13th minute tribute to the young Mayo player who recently lost his life. Real Dublin supporters do not support a tribute of this nature and we feel this idea put forward is tacky and serves only to lower Dublin supporters reputation in the eyes of the rest of the country.”

It’s been a week of high emotion and varying opinions on whether or not Diarmuid Connolly should be on the field tomorrow evening but it’s clear the idea of a ‘tribute’ minute is not going down well in many Dublin GAA circles.
