Eddie Alvarez has called out Conor McGregor as talk of UFC 205 builds

Let’s do this.

Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has called out Conor McGregor for a fight that has largely been rumoured to be the main event at UFC 205 in New York City.

Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting, one of the world’s best known MMA journalists, has previously said that this is the preferred fight for the lightweight title is the preferred event for the UFC at the event and rumours have gathered pace overnight.

No deal has officially been made at this time to actually make the fight happen, in fact Dana White even went as far as to deny the rumours on Twitter yesterday, but that has stopped Alvarez from calling out McGregor.

Alvarez won the title back in July when he knocked out former champion Rafael dos Anjos to claim UFC gold for the first time.

Since then, he targeted the winner of the UFC 202 main event between McGregor and Nate Diaz as his next bout. Well, it seems that he’s itching to get into the cage and take on The Notorious on Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden.

McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh retweeted the above messages along with sending out this tweet immediately after.

This talk of McGregor  v Alvarez hasn’t pleased Khabib Nurmagomedov, who looked set for a crack at the lightweight title until McGregor’s 170 lbs rematch victory over Nate Diaz [somehow] made him a viable 155 lb contender.

Dana White’s tweet would indicate that the Eagle has been promised a match against Alvarez but it could just be gamesmanship from those involved.
