Eddie Hearn meets Conor McGregor about Katie Taylor Croke Park fight

“We talked about numbers, we talked about the cost.”

Eddie Hearn held crunch talks with Conor McGregor to see if there was any way they could put their heads together and make the Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano fight happen in Croke Park.

The stadium fight was always the plan, pretty much from the instant that Taylor beat Serrano in Madison Square Garden last summer.

However, in typical professional boxing fashion, politics and money seem to be in the way as Hearn said he can’t pay the security fees of Croke Park and pay the two fighters the money that they deserve.

That’s where McGregor comes in. The UFC star tweeted that he could potentially help get the fight over the line and Hearn took him up on his offer to meet.

Although he never ruled out a stadium fight, the Matchroom promoter seems pretty set that it’s happening in the 3Arena this May.

“It is realistic for us that May 20th will be in the 3Arena,” Hearn told RTÉ.

“But I think a stadium fight will follow suit, and all of Katie’s fights will now be against undisputed champions and hopefully she can actually finish her career – whenever that may be – in Ireland.

“We talked about numbers, we talked about the cost, we talked about the time frame, TV dates. We talked about the value of fighting the 3Arena.

“He [McGregor] has fought there himself, he said the atmosphere is unbelievable.

“But we want to work together to see how we can make it happen in a big stadium. I don’t see the need to go anywhere else,” Hearn said.
