English rugby coach Eddie Jones has apologised for calling Irish people “scummy”

We’ll forgive him after the game on Saturday.

England’s rugby head coach Eddie Jones has been forced to apologise for calling Irish people “scummy” and Wales a “little shit place.”

The remarks were made during a speech on leadership that he made back in July of 2017 at a conference for Fuso, the parent company of his team’s sponsors Mitsubishi.

Although the video was uploaded on YouTube back in July, it was unearthed by Second Captains ahead of Ireland’s game against England in the final round of the 6 Nations on 17 March.

During the talk, Jones said: “We’ve played 23 tests and have only lost one test to the scummy Irish. I’m still dirty about that game, but we will get that back.”

“Don’t worry,” Jones continued. “We have them next year at home. We will get them back.”

Later bringing up Wales, after they defeated the Japanese Under 20s team 125-0, Jones went on to say: “Wales, who knows Wales? Are there any Welsh people here?

“So it’s this little shit place that has got three million people. Three million!”

In a statement, which was released by the Rugby Football Union on 14 March, Jones gone back on his words, saying:

“I apologise unreservedly for any offence caused – no excuses and I shouldn’t have said what I did.”

A spokesperson for the Rugby Football Union issued a similar apology, saying:

“Eddie has apologised for his inappropriate remarks, and the RFU is also very sorry for any offence caused and will apologise to the IRFU and WRU.”
