Shamrock Rovers have confirmed the appointment of former Hibernian, Bohemians and Shelbourne manager Pat Fenlon.

The former Hoops player takes over at the club immediately and will take training for the first time this afternoon.Rovers are currently 4th in the Airtricity League, 3 points off the European places.

The club have moved quickly to replace Trevor Croly and Fenlon seems like the perfect fit for the Hoops.

The Dubliner has won the league 5 times as a manager and has lifted every single trophy that there is to win in the League of Ireland as a player and manager.

At 45, he is the second most successful manager in League of Ireland history.

Fenlon said: “I am delighted to be taking over as manager of Shamrock Rovers and am very much looking forward to getting to work at the club. The team is in a good position, and so we’ll be looking to push on and build on that.

“I am familiar with the team having seen them numerous times this season and so we will get to work straight away. I’m looking forward to the game against Derry City on Friday night. Hopefully there will be a big crowd and we will work hard to get a result from the game and start on a positive note.”

This news caps a good few days for the club after they booked their  place in the league cup final against Dundalk.
