JOE

With food by Papa John’s Pizza, The Mercantile in Dublin’s city centre is the place to be on February 2, and we’d like you to be there with us.

February 2 is one of the best sporting days of the year. At 2pm, Kildare play All-Ireland finalists Mayo as the Allianz League resumes. At 3pm, Ireland open their Six Nations campaign against Scotland and, to cap it all off, Super Bowl 48 is on in New York.

Hardened NFL fans will have had the date circled in their diary for months but the Super Bowl is the one game of gridiron that everyone with even a passing interest in sport will try to watch. This year’s edition is even more special, with the No 1 seeds from each Conference – Denver Broncos from the AFC and the Seattle Seahawks from the NFC – facing off for the Vince Lombardi trophy in New York’s MetLife Stadium.

Denver, with Peyton Manning at QB, are the slight favourites but the match will either further burnish Manning’s legacy by giving him a second Super Bowl ring or else the new kid on the block, Seattle’s QB Russell Wilson, will herald the dawn of a new era of all action, running game managers. In short, it should be a cracker.

Add in the always spectacular half-time show (Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers this time around), the possibility of heavy snow during the game, and the virtual guarantee that something amazing is going to happen (blackouts, helmet catches, wardrobe malfunctions, the possibilities are endless) and it is a must-see event.

But rather than watch it at home why not watch it with us? Thanks to our good friends Papa John’s Pizza, who a certain Peyton Manning owns 21 branches of in the US in case you didn’t know, we are putting on a Super Bowl party and we’d love you to be there.

The Mercantile, on Dublin’s Dame Street is the venue and the doors will open at 10pm, with kick off for the big game scheduled for 11.30. As you might imagine, places will be limited so we advise you to fill in the below form quickly to get your name down on the list. We will be contacting respondents in the coming days to see if you want a plus one or a plus two to the event.
