Fantasy Football is back, and here’s the prices of the big names

We’re not picking our team just yet, but it’s no harm to have a look at the prices and start the planning now, right?

It is now just 32 days until the Premier League kicks off again. And while we bask in the brilliance of the hurling Championship and enjoy the Tour de France, it is hard to spend too much time thinking about the football juggernaut that is headed our way.

Part of that Premier League experience these days, and a very large part of it for some, is the Fantasy Football aspect and last night the Premier League game opened for the 2013/14 season.

We won’t be rushing in to pick our team just yet, and we will have a JOE League up and running for the new season too, don’t worry, with lots of previews and tips from our Fantasy man (you know what we mean) Conor Heneghan to come.

But we couldn’t resist having a quick look at the prices for some of last year’s biggest names and we thought you might like to see them too.

The most expensive player in the game for the new term is, no prizes for guessing, Robin van Persie. He will cost an eye-watering £14million, so if you fancy the Dutchman, you better plan the rest of your 15-man squad very carefully.

Gareth Bale was another wonder last year and the Spurs man will set you back £12m. Juan Mata at £10.5m and Santi Cazorla (£10m) are the only other midfielders over the £10m barrier.

Luis Suarez, despite his uncertain future and ban for the start of season, will still cost you £11m, as does Sergio Aguero. Wayne Rooney clocks in at £10.5, while Christian Benteke’s stellar year last term moves him up with the big boys, at £9m. If he goes to Spurs, that may go even higher.

Peter Cech and Joe Hart are top stoppers at £6.5 and Leighton Baines, at £7.5m, is the top priced defender.

Not too many new faces have arrived in the Premier League so far but Liverpool’s Iago Aspas is yours for £7m.

Let the planning commence…
