Fergie’s ‘Star Spangled Banner’ at the NBA All-Star Game is the worst thing we’ve ever heard

Tony Cuddihy

Fergie

The players tried, and failed, to keep a straight face.

Years from now, you will speak of two Fergies and they will be recognised thus:

Fergie (I): Alex Ferguson, cantankerous former Manchester United manager, somewhat successful, Scottish.
Fergie (II): Rebecca Ferguson, ex-Black Eyed Pea and murderer of United States’ National Anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star game.

This really is that bad.

Going for the sexy Marilyn Monroe ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’ vibe and sounding more like your mam after a glass of Guinness too many on Christmas Day, Fergie made absolute bits of the Star Spangled Banner.

Even the players, most notably Golden State Warrior Draymond Green, could not keep a straight face as Fergie chewed up that microphone and vomited out the musical equivalent of several fire alarms going off at once.

The reactions were predictably dumbfounded.

Finally, Carl Lewis had some competition.
