Gambling at Galway is always a tricky prospect but one Paddy Power punter has thrown that received wisdom out the window.

One Meath gambler managed to pick five winners at the Galway races today, and he turned that astute bit of form reading into a small fortune.

The punter picked Aranhill Chief at 16/1 to win the first, Hasanour at 14s in the 3.00, Dalkova (12/1) in the Fillies’ Stakes at 3.40, the favourite Thomas Edison at 5/1 in the Galway Hurdle and Ridestan (7/2) in the next race.

The bet was a two parter. A Lucky 31 that cost €6.20 returned over €14,500 while a straight up €1 E/W accumulator netted an astounding €68,000.

Luckily for the unknown Meath genius, Ridestan got home in the final leg with some amount of ease, so the pressure may not have been too bad.

What a piece of punting.
