Football manager savages Darren Bent on Twitter

This is why more football managers need Twitter.

Former Derby manager Paul Clement has responded to criticism from former England striker Darren Bent by absolutely tearing him to shreds.

Bent, who has scored 106 Premier League goals over the course of his career, said of Clement: “It was inevitable he was going to crumble (at Derby). Training had changed and his philosophy from pre-season had gone out the window because we weren’t getting the right results. And ultimately he didn’t really like confrontation.”

Clement responded very harshly to Bent’s take, labelling the forward “lazy and overweight.”

On Twitter, Clement wrote: “I sense some bitterness here, which is normal if a player does not play much. It is never a difficult decision to leave out a player who is over weight and lazy.”

Derby County, who are now managed by Frank Lampard, won their first match of the new Championship season last night with a last minute goal by Tom Lawrence.
