Eamon Carroll was just 33-years-old when he died in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Former Louth junior footballer Eamon Carroll has died after being struck by a Garda patrol near his home in Killurgan.

Carroll had just celebrated winning his sixth county title with his club side St Patrick’s GFC on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Garda Síochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) confirmed: “A road traffic collision involving a Garda patrol car and a pedestrian was referred to GSOC in the early hours of this morning. The collision took place at approximately 1.20am outside Bellurgan, on the main Carlingford to Dundalk road.”

A GSOC investigation has been launched into the accident while a book of condolences has been opened at St. Patrick’s GFC.

All club activities have been suspended for the time being, and JOE would like to extend our sympathies to Eamon’s family and friends at this time.
