Why didn't we think of that?

Why didn’t we think of that?

Former Waterford manager and Kildare selector Niall Carew netted €170k over the weekend thanks to a well thought out accumulator at Boylesports.

The bet was placed in a shop in Kildare and consisted of a €5 accumulator as well as a €3 lucky 15.

Carew made the same selections on his bets. Ribbons in the 3.10 Deauville at 10/1, Ansgar in the 4.15 at Goodwood at 10/1, Kalann in the 5.10 at the Curragh at 16/1 and Kerry v Mayo to finish in a draw at 8/1.

When Kalann returned first past the post in the Curragh, it earned Carew a cool €170,000 in prize money, something he thought impossible when Lee Keegan was dismissed in the opening half for Mayo on Sunday.

Carew probably cursed Kieran Donaghy on numerous occasions over his management career but he was surely singing his name from the rooftops on Sunday evening following his match changing impact in the semi-final clash.
