GAA round-up: Dubs overcome Clare as Kilkenny edge a thriller against Tipperary at Nowlan Park

Conal Keaney was the hero as Dublin beat All-Ireland champions Clare 2-17 to 0-17 at Parnell Park on Sunday.

Keaney bagged an impressive 1-03 after starting in a full-forward position for Anthony Daly’s side, who had lost to Galway in Round 1. Alan McCrabbe managed to take nine points from placed balls on a surprisingly bad afternoon for the Banner County. Keaney’s goal sent Dublin into a 1-12 to 0-10 lead at the break, with Colin Ryan striking five points from frees for Clare. Clare – who started with Shane O’Donnell in attack – failed to get going in the second half as Dublin killed the game off. Colm Cronin grabbed a second goal for the Dubs on 45 minutes, while Shane Durkin was also impressive for the home side. Meanwhile, Kilkenny overpowered bitter rivals Tipperary in a classic encounter at Nowlan Park. The Cats took victory by 5-20 to 5-14 after coming back from ten points down, and this was their first victory of the campaign after their loss to Clare at Cusack Park last weekend. Colin Fennelly was the hero for Kilkenny, grabbing a personal tally of 3-05 from play. Séamus Callinan managed the same for Tipperary yet still ended up on the losing side on a remarkable day of hurling. Finally, Waterford were the victors against Galway, spoiling the optimism of the Tribesmen with a 0-22 to 0-13 victory
