Wow, who knew GAA could be so lucrative?

With a minimum of nine match days left in the inter-county GAA calendar this year, Croke Park stands to make around €16 million in gate receipts from the games.

That figure doesn’t take into account if there’s a draw in any of the games, like the All-Ireland Hurling Final which has been a draw match for the last three years.

We are guessing the GAA will be silently hoping for plenty of drawn games over the coming weeks in order to raise that remarkably high figure even further.

The attendance at games this year has been above average despite the lack of close games in the football championship.

Although fans can expect the games to tighten up as the numbers get whittled down and only the strong remain trying to get a foothold at the top table.

The gate income for last year brought in 23 million for the GAA after the replays and that figure could very well be attainable again this season if results go their way.

Hat-tip to the Irish Independent.
