There were wins for Cork and Kildare in Division 1 of the Allianz League on Sunday.
Daniel Goulding was the hero for Cork as he bagged seven points in a 0-18 to 0-10 victory over Westmeath.
The match was Brian Cuthbert’s first league game in charge, and he will have been particularly impressed with a fine second half showing after the teams went in level at 0-5 to 0-5 at half-time.
As well as Goulding, Aidan Walsh, Mark Collins and Tom Clancy were all on song for the Rebels, while John Heslin top scored for Westmeath with five points.
Kildare had a day to remember after beating All-Ireland finalists Mayo by a single point.
Paddy Brophy was the hero for the Lilywhites in a 2-19 to 2-18 victory.
It was a pulsating game in Newbridge, with Kildare going into half-time with a four-point lead.
Mayo fought back with goals from Jason Gibbons and Darren Coen, but a goal at the other end from Eoghan O’Flaherty set Kildare up for Brophy’s grandstand finish.
