The Americans need something of a miracle.
It’s been a good day for Europe at the Ryder Cup, with Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell et al leading the United States 10-6 after day two at Gleaneagles.
Saturday afternoon’s foursomes were almost a clean sweep for Paul McGinley’s team.
Jamie Donaldson and Lee Westwood beat Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar 2&1, Victor Dubuisson and McDowell beat Jimmy Walker and Rickie Dowler 5&4, and McIlroy teamed up with Sergio Garcia to see off Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan 3&2.
The final contest, between Martin Kaymer/Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth/Patrick Reed, was halved.
