The 2014 Winter Olympics are officially underway in Sochi, Russia, so here’s a look at just some of the best pics from the Opening Ceremony.
The Russians certainly put on a spectacular performance for the 2014 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, but unfortunately for the organisers a pretty major part of the show didn’t quite go to plan.
The Irish team was looking the part in their khaki-green snow gear, while a lot of the other teams, including ze Germans, went for a much more colourful choice of clothing. In fairness, they all looked pretty cool. Many have said that the German’s colourful choice of clothing was in protest to Russia’s anti-gay laws, but the German team has denied those rumours.
As for the show itself, there were giant mechanical animals, lots of fireworks and a light show that featured a few horses being chased by Sauron from Lord of the Rings. At least that’s what it looked like.
So the games are now officially underway and you can catch all the Winter Olympic action over on BBC.
