The Galway hurling and wider GAA community was thrown into shock last night following the death of inter-county hurler Niall Donoghue.

Donoghue, who was due to celebrate his 23rd birthday tomorrow, died suddenly at around 7pm yesterday evening. A member of the Kilbeacanty club, Donoghue was a prominent member of the Galway team that won their first ever Leinster hurling title last season and were defeated by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland hurling final replay.

With a reputation as a stylish wing-back, Donoghue was set for a big future with the Tribesman and his death has caused shock and devastation in Galway GAA circles. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.
