Monaghan deservedly command most of the attention in this week’s podcast after their momentous Ulster Final victory over All-Ireland Champions Donegal in Clones and while that was a result nobody saw coming, the same can’t be said for Mayo’s 16-point defeat of London in Castlebar.
Conor Heneghan is back in the hotseat this week and is joined by Sean Nolan and Declan Whooley to talk about Monaghan’s brilliant display, where the flat Donegal display came from and whether Mayo will benefit in any way from what was ultimately a facile victory considering that they have yet to be seriously tested to date.
The lads also discuss the rest of the weekend’s qualifiers and look ahead to the final round of qualifiers this weekend, including ‘El Crispico’, a brilliantly conceived title by Sean Nolan for the meeting of Tyrone and Meath at Croke Park on Saturday evening.
Having taken a break for a week, the hurling championship is back with a bang with the double header at Semple Stadium on Sunday and amongst the points up for discussion are Kilkenny’s ability to keep on winning despite not hitting the heights, Cork’s confidence and the importance of Patrick Horgan, Clare’s rather unfortunate propensity to miss the target and Galway’s limp campaign so far.
As usual, the lads also make their predictions for all the games in the football championship this weekend and remember, if you’re not doing so already, you can pit your wits against all the JOE lads and fellow JOE readers as part of the JOE GAA Prediction League in association with eircom’s Win, Lose or Draw game and you can win a pair of All-Ireland Final tickets while you’re at it.
