Gatty goes batty over ‘self-obsessed’ Keith Wood

Warren Gatland today fired a broadside at Keith Wood, labelling the former Irish captain a ‘me féiner’ after his ‘personal’ attacks during the Lions tour.

Gatland was giving an interview on WalesOnline today and responded to a question to Wood’s criticism of the decision to drop Brian O’Driscoll for the third and final Test against Australia and also the style of play of the touring side.

As you can read for yourself, Woods’ former international captain did not sit on the fence.

“With regard to Keith Wood, I think he’s let himself down basically,” said a frank Gatland. “That’s for him to have to deal with.”

“I think some of the things he said were a little bit…rather than respect that coaches make decisions he’s gone and made it a little bit personal. That’s probably a reflection of him as an individual.

He even was able to show off some Gaeilge he had picked up during his time on these shores to describe his feelings on the pundit.

“The Irish have a great saying – ‘he’s a me féiner. That probably sums him up.”

While he wasn’t too complementary of the former Irish hooker, he did say that there was no ill-feeling between himself and O’Driscoll despite the shock omission Down Under.

That’s now at least two Christmas cards Gatland won’t be receiving this Christmas.
