Armagh fans were crying out for Kieran McGeeney to return to Armagh after his departure from Kildare and he has… as a member of Paul Grimley’s backroom team for next season.

McGeeney’s involvement in Grimley’s backroom team was confirmed in a statement on the Armagh GAA website a little earlier today, with Peter McDonnell and Martin McQuillan also set to act as selectors, Julie Davis as strength and conditioning coach and James Doyle as speed coach.

McGeeney and Grimley know each other well as Grimley was a member of McGeeney’s backroom team for a time while Geezer was in charge of Kildare and Grimley was also a part of Joe Kernan’s set-up while McGeeney was a key member of the Armagh side that won an All-Ireland title in 2002 and were such a prominent force from the late 90s to the mid-00s.

Given the clamour for McGeeney’s return to Armagh once his departure from Kildare, many will speculate that his involvement in Grimley’s backroom set-up is merely a stepping stone to him eventually taking on a managerial role with his native county but for now, Armagh fans will be happy to have him back amongst his own once again.
