GIF: Ashley Young wins a penalty with the latest in a collection of dodgy dives
This won’t do much to help Young’s reputation for ‘going down easily’.
Once you acquire a reputation for going down easily it can be hard to shake, but Ashley Young seems to be doing little to rid himself of the ‘diver’ tag after another questionable dive during Manchester United’s clash with Real Sociedad this evening.
A second-half substitute for Javier Hernandez – who didn’t cover himself in glory with a quite shocking miss – Young cut inside from the left wing and went to ground after the slightest of contact with Sociedad’s Markel Bergara, who understandably looked a little shocked to receive a yellow card.
Robin van Persie’s fiercely struck penalty hit the post so it could be said that justice was done, but it’s hardly likely to dampen the controversy surrounding Young’s dive, particularly after a similar act earlier in the season led to a talking to from David Moyes.
Ashley, you’ve a lot of explaining to do.
