The new Gareth Bale anyone?
Spurs have been dull but effective so far this season. That formula has proved successful but it means you haven’t been rushing home from work to watch their Europe League games, which many of us did last year thanks to a certain Mr Bale from Wales.
But new boy Erik Lamela may be stepping into the Real Madrid man’s shoes in more ways than one. For one he is an exciting player to watch, always prepared to take on defenders to create something and two, like his fellow left footer, he is such a threat in the penalty area as his combo of pace and skill draws defenders into making fouls.
That is exactly what happened last night as Spurs played Sheriff, where Lamela scored the opener on the hour mark before some Bale-esque trickery by the former Roma man won Tottenham a spot kick.
It might be worth tuning into Spurs’ games after all.
