With the news that Leinster hooker Richardt Strauss is out for the rest of the season in order to undergo heart surgery his teammates have been quick to rally behind their team-mate.
Yesterday the club announced that the 27 year-old will take no further part in the campaign due to a heart condition and his fellow players have rallied behind the man who joined Leinster back in 2009, with Brian O’Driscoll admitting that it is far bigger than a rugby issue as Strauss looks to get abck to full health.
“I was talking to Straussy today and I guess I didn’t realise the seriousness of his situation,” he admitted.
“Talking to him, no longer is it a rugby issue, it’s a health issue. The precautions that have been taken now and the plan that’s been put into effect is all to look after him from a health point of view, not a rugby point of view,” he added.
Paul O’Connell also wished the hooker a speedy recovery while Jamie Heaslip was seen in training yesterday wearing his training top in support of the South African.
